Descripción

The mooring of the ship must resist the forces due the some, or possibly all, of the following factors: wind, current, tides, surges from passing ships, waves, ice and draught changes. These forces are difficult to analyse. Rules adopted by Classification Societies provide empirically based tables for hawsers as a guide only. No guidance is provided in the classification rules on the mooring arrangements. The result is that design of mooring systems, especially for dry cargo vessels, is still based mainly on a good practice and owners requirements. Quite often an incomplete understanding of mooring requirements results in a system, wich is over-designed and unnecessarily expensive for the purpose intended.
